BMW 7 Series

The new BMW 7 series was launched early in 2009 after the disastrously experimental Bangle-designed one. The new 7 series, following its predecessors has opted for a long and sleek exterior design, while its interior draws inspirations from the successful 3 series and 5 series.

The dashboard of the 7 series is extremely angular looking, and the colours of the cabin looks incredibly dull despite the creamy leather used to lift the mood. Build quality and fittings are excellent, as expected, but the seats in the Beemer looks hard and feels uncomfortable to sit on.

BMW is a brand whose cars are reputed for their dynamic driving ability, and making a good cabin with the flair is definitely not their forte.

I have a friend who once told me BMW interiors resemble the the seats in an airplane, because of their are hard looking, dull, and straight cut looking seats. And I found this terribly true in every BMW I've sat in. Good car, good quality, but oh my goodness, you call this interior design?

Hyundai Genesis

The Hyundai Genesis was launched in 2008 to offer a cheaper proposition to the Lexus LS which took the world by storm in the 1990s. Building on a nameplate in which the major selling point was price, the Genesis had much to do to prove whatever it was worth instead of just the "H" logo that appeared on every corner of the car.

On first impressions, we like the fact that it comes with a brown leather interior option. The use of woodgrain in the car is minimal and this is a plus point in modern cars. The Genesis interior has a full dashboard stitched in leather, which is closely familiar if you remembered the interior of the Merc CLS.

The wedge-shaped dashboard is appealing, and the use of aluminium trim blends nicely with the woodgrain lining the interior. The BMW-like iDrive looking knob tells you that this is a technologically advanced car, so please read the user's manual before trying to fiddle with it.

The rear seats are handsomely sculpted and it sure looks comfortable for people of most sizes.

If there's ever one thing to complain about, it would be the kind of woodtrim Hyundai uses. If you actually went to scruntinize, their woodtrim is always shiny and polished, much like what you would expect from faux woodtrims. And for a car of this status, you would be expecting more.

Also, removing the "H" logo on the steering wheel would so good to remind you that you're not in some budget-priced junk...
